Joining a panel discussion at this year’s IBC event to talk about the use of Devicescape Engage to deliver proximity marketing campaigns for movies showed me just how much an industry’s understanding of its customer can be improved by collaboration.

At Devicescape we are committed to being compliant with GDPR ahead of its introduction. Just as important, we want to be absolutely clear about what our proximity marketing solution — Devicescape Engage — does and doesn’t do, and what we understand about consumers.

Over the last few iterations of the leading operating systems, we have seen a profusion of tools in the OS itself designed to name and shame any apps which use more than their fair share of power. Which is great, until it goes too far.

Wi-Fi takes on a whole new level of importance when we are travelling overseas. The great majority of energy spent to date on harnessing Wi-Fi for engagement has been focused on improving the ability of a particular organization to engage its own customers, to its own ends, within its own venues. Engagement rates on transport were among the highest seen across the World Cancer Day campaign. Click through rates achieved on trains, buses, and coaches operated by some of the UK’s top transport brands were very strong, ranging from 7.5% to 13.8%. This is clearly great news for brands keen to engage consumers at the most effective times. It also creates a significant opportunity for transport-focused smartphone apps, particularly those owned by transport operators.
