Wireless Tools for Linux
|
|
Summary
This package contains the Wireless tools used to manipulate the Wireless Extensions. The Wireless Extensions is an interface allowing you to set Wireless LAN specific parameters and get the specific statistics.
For detailed information on the open source wireless-tools packages, refer to the READMEs in the wireless-tools package included in the platform.
The Linux distribution that ships with the platform includes a precompiled package containing the wireless-tools.
Usage of iwconfig and iwpriv is described in Wireless Testing Tools in wireless-tools package topic.
When to Use wireless-tools or ieee80211 Packages
When using hostapd or wpa_supplicant with the platform reference designs (which use an Atheros radio driver), do not include the wireless-tools packages in your builds. Using both the Devicescape driver packages and open source wireless-tools packages in this scenario will have unpredictable results (due to code reduncancies and conflicts in functionality).
The Devicescape™ Universal Wireless Platform wireless testing tools incorporate the use of iwconfig and iwpriv commands from the open source Linux wireless-tools package. The Devicescape testing tools include a sniffer, a station simulator, a WPA testing tool, and a frame generator that work with iwconfig and iwpriv when hostapd is configured for various test setups.
For more information on the Devicescape wireless testing tools, see ieee80211-tools package.
