Managed Hotspot Client Capabilities
Devicescape's Managed Hotspot Client is a unique and extremely powerful system. The combination of intelligent clients and a scalable web-based service unlocks a wide range of capabilities, summarized below.
Automated Hotspot Access
The Hotspot Client automates access to all types of Wi-Fi network, including those with WISPr support and non-standard UAM. Uniquely, the Hotspot Client is capable of automating access to most networks without any requirement for integration support by the network operator.
Access for All Devices
The Hotspot Client architecture allows all sorts of devices to be supported, even low-cost devices with limited hardware resources. The client is extremely small and does not require local storage to support an unlimited quantity of automated hotspot connections. Even better, there is no requirement for an embedded browser nor any form of user interface on the device.
Huge, Global Network Compatibility
The Hotspot Client "navigation methods" are stored on Devicescape's servers, where they can be supplied dynamically to a device attempting to authenticate. (The system can also be configured to store some networks locally if required). This approach allows for a virtually unlimited number of networks to be supported, and accommodates network adds and changes without the need to update a potentially large number of devices in the installed base.
Thousands of networks are supported, including:
- Most major operator networks;
- Small and large retail chain networks;
- Community networks such as munis, universities and public spaces; and
- Most aggregator networks.
This allows a single piece of technology to support a global market of Wi-Fi.
User Personalized Coverage
Wi-Fi is highly personal. The Hotspot Client allows users to select from the providers which are important to them, and allows manufacturers to reach a wide demographic without restricting choice for the end-user, or needing multiple solutions to cover all networks. Users can even request the additional of new networks quickly and easily.
Personal Networks and Sharing
The Hotspot Client allows users to register their own personal Wi-Fi networks, such as home and small business installations. This makes it easy for networks to be setup and managed across any devices owned by the user (such as a PC and smartphone).
Personal networks can also be shared automatically among friends and family by using a simple invitation mechanism, which avoids the complexity and risk of handing out security keys.
Free Wi-Fi Support
Devicescape is constantly adding free Wi-Fi networks to its core database. These can be selected for automatic addition to a user's Easy Wi-Fi account, giving immediate out-of-the-box access at a huge number of locations.
Web APIs and Backend Integration
Devicescape provides and licenses web based APIs to its customers, to allow for sophisticated integration and remote management of devices. This allows, for example, credentials to be automatically provisioned to a device to grant access, without end-user involvement.
Custom Clients and Network Footprints
Customized and re-branded Easy Wi-Fi clients can be licensed by customers, for distribution to their user base. The network footprint can be completely flexible, ranging from being "locked" to a single Wi-Fi provider footprint, through being completely "unlocked" to let the end-user choose.
White Labeled Web Portal
The Devicescape Easy Wi-Fi web portal can be re-branded and licensed to be offered as a white-label service for device manaufacturer or service provider users.
