Managed Hotspot Client Technical Specifications
Devicescape Easy Wi-Fi is modular and portable to allow it to be integrated into many applications and platforms. Depending on the existing capabilities of the device, not all of Easy Wi-Fi may be needed. In particular, Easy Wi-Fi may need to operate with existing supplicants (to add WPS or hotspot login) or only a subset of the functionality is needed.
Capabilities of Hotspot Login
Easy Wi-Fi's Hotspot Login module is a thin client application (under 75KB in code size), making it easy to incorporate into a device’s software design. The application can be configured to support locally stored credentials and access methods, or for these to be retrieved dynamically over the Wi-Fi network prior to authentication.
In the dynamic approach, access credentials and splash page navigation information are stored on Devicescape servers and supplied to a mobile device as needed. This allows networks to be added or updated immediately, and for a virtually unlimited number of networks to be supported. Devices don’t have to retain large databases of network information in their flash memory, and there’s no need to undertake complex firmware updates across all fielded devices. Simply update data on the Devicescape server (to add a new hotspot network, for example), and all devices can immediately benefit from the change.

Platform Requirements
Device operating systems must provide the following services to run Easy Wi-Fi Hotspot Login:
- C library support
- Crypto-grade random number generator
- OSF DCE 1.1 compliant UUID string generator
- HTTP/HTTPS library
- Wi-Fi supplicant with API to read SSIDs and BSSIDs
- Network up/down indication from network subsystem
Devicescape can provide all these functions and libraries if they are not already resident on the device platform.
Device manufacturers can embed Easy Wi-Fi into existing or new device software designs. The technology can be adapted to any device operating system and processor, and can work in conjunction with any Wi-Fi supplicant. The Devicescape Managed Supplicant provides for a range of additional features, particularly remote provisioning of network profiles and credential upload.
