Devicescape today announced that Cedar Milazzo has joined the company as vice president of engineering; he will lead the engineering strategy, architecture and technical development of Devicescape’s “always best connected” mobile data connectivity solutions. Milazzo joins Devicescape from NETGEAR, Inc., where he served as vice president of engineering of software and was responsible for the development of a number of cloud services that supported millions of end users.

Prior to joining NETGEAR, Inc., in 2011, Milazzo was vice president of engineering at 4Home Inc. (acquired by Motorola Mobility), where he directed the development of the 4Home Connected Home Architecture, Development and Testing teams as well as set the technology strategy for the overall company. Milazzo also has extensive experience in the telecommunications and mobile industry, including at Covad Communications, where he developed their Operation Support Services Enterprise Service Bus architecture. Milazzo also defined and implemented enterprise technology products at Adobe Systems and Boeing, and worked with the U.S. Geological Survey, where he developed mapping products for the U.S. Geological Survey’s Planetary Data System, including online mapping services for Mars and the moon. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science and Computer Engineering from Northern Arizona University.

With Milazzo on board, the company’s former vice president of engineering, Simon Wynn, now becomes Devicescape’s CTO, Products. Wynn will continue to guide both product technology and the company’s IP and patent initiatives, while expanding technical consulting into executive customer interactions.
Devicescape monitors more than 250 million global Wi-Fi hotspots in real time to deliver its industry-leading Curator Service to mobile operators, including Leap Wireless (Cricket), U.S. Cellular, MetroPCS (T-Mobile), C Spire, Republic Wireless, Intel, and Microsoft (deployed by Verizon), among others. These deployments validate the huge opportunity held in automatically connecting smartphone users to curated amenity Wi-Fi. In November, Devicescape’s Curator Service won a 2013 Fierce Innovation Award in the Traffic Offload category. The awards, which recognized the Curator Service as the top industry solution enabling offload of data traffic to alternative network architectures in congested network areas, were judged by an exclusive carrier-only panel of executives from AT&T, Cablevision System Corporation, Comcast, Cox Communications, MetroPCS, Rogers Communications, TeliaSonera International Carrier, and Verizon.
