SAN BRUNO , Calif. - August 21, 2006 - Devicescape Software, a leader in wireless software for service-enabled devices, today announced general availability of its Devicescape Agent software. Building upon the company’s Secure Wireless Client, the Devicescape Agent provides device manufacturers with Devicescape’s Easy Access technology, expanded platform support, including Windows Mobile 5.0, and expanded chipset support. With the Devicescape Agent, manufacturers now have the first and only solution that will enable them to develop service-enabled devices that are easy to connect to Wi-Fi networks.

On average, manufacturers receive two support calls for every retail Wi-Fi device sold, underscoring the difficulty people have gaining easy access to a wireless network. Available today, the Devicescape Agent includes Easy Access technology, which is the first and only commercial implementation of the new Wi-Fi Protected Setup specification. With this breakthrough technology, Devicescape customers can build service-enabled devices that are secure and also easy for consumers to use and connect.

The Devicescape Agent with Devicescape's Easy Access technology works across multiple vendor Wi-Fi chipsets and has been thoroughly tested for interoperability. Now, instead of being faced with complicated configuration procedures, consumers can access Web-based services and content from their wireless devices easily and securely with a few simple steps, resulting in fewer product returns and frustrations.

The Devicescape Agent also includes support for Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows PC operating systems, and is the first software solution for device manufacturers that brings the Wi-Fi Protected Setup specification and Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) to the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform. This expanded support addresses the exploding number of devices that need wireless connectivity, so developers can take advantage of Easy Access technology and full enterprise security support in a wide range of device designs. This expanded platform support also provides device manufacturers with the ability to support the growing number of devices using the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system.

Devicescape Agent benefits include:

• Consumer Ease of Use – Devicescape’s Easy Access technology enables consumers to set up a wireless network and/or add a device to an existing network without the need to configure complex encryption codes and networking parameters. Easy Access supports an extremely convenient pushbutton configuration method as well as a simple PIN code method for setting up a wireless network. Both methods make it feasible to use a variety of devices on a wireless network, even those without user interfaces. • Design Flexibility – In addition to Linux and Windows CE, the Devicescape Agent now supports the Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows PC operating systems. The Devicescape Agent is also delivered in source code format, allowing other operating systems to be used as well. In addition, the Devicescape Agent is validated with a wide range of hardware, including the latest Wi-Fi chipsets from Atheros, Broadcom and Marvell. This range of platform support gives developers flexibility in their device designs and removes integration obstacles.
• Security and Interoperability – The Devicescape Agent offers full support for the latest Wi-Fi security standards, including the recently announced Wi-Fi Protected Setup specification, WPA2 Personal and Enterprise and all Extended EAP methods. With its rigorous adherence to standards, device manufacturers can be assured that products based on the Devicescape Agent will be thoroughly interoperable. Devicescape’s software technology is also used in Wi-Fi testbeds around the world to verify compliance with these security standards. And, for device manufacturers seeking compatibility with the large installed base of Cisco WLAN infrastructure, the Devicescape Agent offers optional support for the Cisco Compatible Extensions version 4 (CCXv4).
