SAN BRUNO, Calif., December 21, 2010 — Devicescape, the leader in Easy WiFi, today announced that MetroPCS Communications, Inc. will deploy Devicescape’s Easy WiFi solution in support of its Android-based smartphones. Easy WiFi is integrated into the handsets to simply and transparently offload consumer data traffic to Devicescape’s virtual Easy WiFi Network, reducing mobile network congestion and helping optimize network efficiencies.
Android-based smartphones continue to gain popularity among a growing number of consumers given the wide range of services and applications which are available. In turn, use of media-centric applications can drive increasing volumes of data over the mobile network — particularly in urban areas or congested areas like airports. MetroPCS today offers unlimited talk, text and web services with its flat-rate, no annual contract service plans.
A custom version of Devicescape’s Easy WiFi, called “MetroPCS Easy WiFi”, is included in MetroPCS’ Android smartphones — starting with the LG Optimus M™ and Huawei Ascend™. The Devicescape technology is used to mitigate costs and reduce congestion through the diversion of data traffic onto the prolific Easy WiFi Network.
