Dynamically selected from hundreds of millions of hotspots worldwide, Devicescape's Curated Virtual Network (CVN) is a massive collection of free, public, and amenity-based Wi-Fi access points that grows larger by the minute. The CVN is customizable for each mobile operator based on speed, bandwidth, and user experience requirements. It leverages machine learning algorithms and real-time quality of experience (QoE) measurements to continuously and cost-effectively identify the best available networks.
The Devicescape CVN is an actively managed subset of the 100-million-plus Wi-Fi hotspots worldwide that have been identified to date. For a Wi-Fi hotspot to make it into the CVN, it must pass Devicescape's tests for quality, availability, speed, and reliability. Only the best-performing public access points are good enough to become part of the CVN. In fact, only about 10% of the Wi-Fi hotspots Devicescape measures actually qualify. And those that do are constantly reviewed, retested, and requalified as part of Devicescape's active curation.
Devicescape client software is running now on millions of mobile devices handsets around the world. It is constantly gathering data on hotspots and monitoring the ever-changing Wi-Fi landscape. When a new hotspot is identified, the Devicescape Curator machine learning technology attempts to validate it and record performance metrics and other characteristics.
Despite rigorous selectivity, the Devicescape CVN is a rapidly growing network, with between 10 and 20 million access points (curated from over 100 million discovered access points worldwide). Given the rising availability of amenity Wi-Fi—no matter who deploys the access point—and the growing number of Devicescape clients deployed around the world, the CVN grows dramatically with each passing week. See the forecast.
The CVN is a unique asset available as a carrier-grade service to mobile operators seeking to move beyond simple offload and to intelligently select the right time for a user to be on either Wi-Fi or the mobile network. The Devicescape Offload Service allows each Devicescape customer to set their own policy rules, QoE requirements, and Curator Client software settings to customize the CVN as they see fit. Devicescape has the best and largest Wi-Fi network in the world, and mobile operators can make it their own.
The CVN is available as a carrier-grade service at significantly lower cost than the traditional approaches to either extending capacity-reach or elevating the user experience. Instead of—or in addition to—either building or assimilating the mobile operator's own network or partnering with Wi-Fi network operators, operators can partner with Devicescape to access an enormous network that complements their existing infrastructure and follows the worldwide trend of getting the most out of diverse networks.
